FOtF Game 93: I’m Running Out of Ways to Rave About the Red Sox
I posted this on twitter, but I'm going to say it again because I thought it was funny. Chris Sale might be Jesus. There is no factual evidence that he is not Jesus. Has anyone ever seen them in the same room? No, they haven't, and I rest my case. The dude is automatic now. He was always good, but he has transcended into another realm. After his outrageously unfair 7 scoreless innings tonight, where he struck out 12, Sale is now 10-4 with a 2.23 ERA. That is stupid good, and so is he. His stuff looked out of this world tonight, and that Moncada trade is looking like the greatest trade deal in the history trade deals. If this guy can put it together in the post season, I won't know what to do with myself.
The offense was somewhat stagnant tonight but it didn't matter. JD and Mookie kept up with their piss-missile shit, and they continue to whack the shit out of the ball. They continue to further the argument that they should be co-MVPs this year. Xander went a nice 3-4 and Benny added 2 hits. This team is showing flashes of the outrageous 17-1 start, and I've forgotten all together what it feels like for the Red Sox to lose games.
Andrew Benintendi got slapped with the snub of the year, and I am not a happy man. He is now hitting .301 with a .907 OPS. That is elite, and he deserves a spot in the ASG without a doubt. The best part of the final vote process was the all-out effort by Brock Holt. As Benny's campaign manager, he spent so much time and energy trying to get his buddy to the ASG that he forgot to play baseball for a few days. Honestly, I'm okay with that. The adorable picture of his kid made it so worth it, and he shouldn't be ashamed by his effort. Kimbrel recorded his 28th save of the year, and if I'm correct, he's on pace for 162 of them. This Red Sox team could all be inducted into the Hall of Fame and no one would bat an eye. This team is next-level good and I couldn't be happier.
I'd like to also take some time to discuss the trade rumors flying around. Obviously the Yankees are thirsty for change after splitting a four game set with the Orioles and falling 3.5 back of the Red Sox. My two cents are simple; don't fix it if it ain't broke. I love this Red Sox team, and I don't see any reason to further deplete the farm system or tap into the young core of this team. Let the Yankees shell out for someone, and if we need to try and finagle a deal for Dozier, Gennett or Merrifield, than so be it.
The Red Sox are a season's best 37 games over .500 and maintain their 3.5 game lead. 69 wins before the break is on the horizon, and all that stands in the way is a three game set with the Jays.
